Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum

Across U.S. Highway 82 from the Crosby County Pioneer Museum is the

Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum: It is a privately owned and operated museum belonging to Joe Taylor. Joe is an artist, archeologist, and as interesting as any exhibit in his museum. Joe has used the experiences of a well lived life to put together one of the most unique, and one-of-a-kind collections you will find anywhere.

He supports the museum by casting fossils into museum quality replicas in his onsite workshop. He can cast a small fossil or an entire Stegosaurus for museums displays. Often you can watch the casting process in his workshop.

Joe also made a living in Los Angeles in the sixties and seventies as a sign painter. A major part of this work was painting huge copies of album covers from bands and singers of that era. Joe was able to rescue many of the signs when they were taken down. They form a visual narrative of the times.

Find anything from the nostalgic, the funky, the weird, and the inspiration in Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum.

The schedule for the museum is rather erratic. If Joe is invited to join in a dig, he goes, but Mt. Blanco Fossil Museum is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.

Aspen Street was built as a large boulevard for stately … Read more...
